December 2, 2009 - I Had To

I had to go through my childhood growing up with my grandparents to get to where I am now. I had to go through being a nobody in order to become somebody today. I had to go through sitting on the bench my freshman year in college to propel me to break records in the years to follow. I had to have a bad 1 on 1 sesion with the Green Bay Packers, to get me back on track. I had to show up at my next work out and do better. I had to go through Draft day undrafted with so many promises broken. I had to feel that dissapointment to test myself on how bad I wanted to play.I had to go to a workout for an Arena 2 team that only paid 200$ a week, for it was that workout that gave me the break I needed. I had to show up in a Calgary workout and prove that I still had it. I had to be told by Montreal that I wasn't what they were looking for. I had to be the last person signed to the Calgary roster in 2004, I had to be tested. I had to give everything I had to make it on the team. I had to stand out over countless stars that I watched play before me. I had to, I just had to. I had to be told that I might not make the team after my rookie year when Cope and Rambo came in. I had to have that doubt, I had to go 4-14, to give me the drive to never want to go through another season like that. I had to make way to Cope when he got here, in order to fit in. I had to prove that I was also a force and that together we were great. I had to make a name for myself, even if it was CFL Jerk of the League. I had to be known because we only remember the greatest villians and heros. you don't remember the others that fought the battles. I had to lose 3 straight first round games in order to dig deep to win the Grey Cup. I had to go through all the pains in life to truely be able to know how great it feels to have happiness. I had to get knocked down to get up, and I had to lose myself along the way, so I could find what it was that I was really after. I had to chase the bad things in life in order to realize that it was not rewarding. I had to write this blog because now I realize that everything I had to do, Made me who I am today. I Had to go through so much, just to keep getting samples of great things. In a previous blog I asked about success, and now I know that success is making it through all the things we had to do in the past to get to a better place in life. I had to let you know that I am so grateful to be where I am today and remember that when times are rough just look in the mirror and tell yourself you have to go through this to be who you want to be. Every decision is not the right one, but everystep forward is a Beautiful Journey that we call Life.....
